In many Asian countries, rice is the most essential food in everyday meals. Not only that, but the women there also use rice water for hair, face, and body. Among all of those tips, using rice water to improve and beautify hair isn’t new. The friendly contents in rice may make you rethink your current chemical products which may do harm to your body without significant benefits to you. We will now discuss how rice water works on your hair and how you will apply it in the right way.
How does rice benefit your hair beauty?
Rice grains contain a very high starch content (70-80%) and are rich in amino acids, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants which all saturates the water when soaked. The ingredients when massaged with your hair and scalp will release healthy and moisturizing properties absorbing into the hair and scalp. The starch from the rice will coat the hair locks, helping thicken the strands. This also attribute to the extra body, shine, and de-frizzing effect on your hair after you use the rice water rinse.
After you have your hair dyed, it would likely become dull, dry, and brittle. Rice water could be the solution for your healthy hair since it reduces friction, improves elasticity, and narrow the outer cuticle. The result you will get is shinier and smoother hair.
Furthermore, rice water promotes hair growth, too. It could be explained that the rice water shall stimulate blood flow to the scalp and remove dirt and buildup, leading to longer hair. The principle is to create a clean and healthy environment for nourishing your hair.
Last but not least, rice water is one of the amazing remedies for curly hair. Curly hair is more likely dry and brittle than the others. The protein in rice will penetrate deeply and improve the hair damages, making it bouncy and manageable.
How to make and apply rice water for your hair?
There are three main ways that you could choose for yourself, depending on how effectively they work on you. One of the three ways may take more time than the others, but we cannot say which one is the best. Then you are recommended to do some experiments before coming to the last conclusion.
1. Soaked rice water
Take 1 cup of uncooked rice; rinse it thoroughly to remove dirt.
Add 2-3 glasses of water; let it sit for 30 minutes;
Strain the rice water into a bowl.
This method is for those who are very busy or impatient.
2. Boiled rice water
Take ½ cup of rice; rinse it quickly
Add 1 glass of water then cook the rice in boiling water
Strain the rice water into a bowl before use.
You can dilute the concentrated liquid before rinsing your hair. In general, your hair length and greasiness level decide the ideal concentration of dilution. With medium hair length and the average level of greasiness, the advised dilution ratio is 1:10. The oilier your hair, the lower the concentration should be.
3. Fermented rice
Take 2 cups of rice;
Then add 2 times more water to it
Leave the rice to soak for 20 to 30 minutes;
Strain the water into a glass bottle, screw the cap and then leave in a dark place at room temperature for 2 days;
When a sour smell appears, put the bottle in a fridge to preserve all the beneficial properties obtained during fermentation.
Fermentation helps lower the pH level of rice water to the pH level of the hair and nourishes it better due to the effective penetration of vitamins into your hair and scalp.
Also, you can use diluted rice water as a conditioner. Apply it to wet clean hair, massage the scalp thoroughly, and rinse after 5 to 10 minutes. For additional nourishment, you could add a few drops of essential oil, such as rosemary, geranium, or lavender.
To make a healthy shampoo, mix rice water and flour together and let the mixture brew for 5-10 minutes. Use it alone or in a 1:1 ratio with your recent shampoo.
Should everyone take this remedy?
To be honest, rice water can have a drying effect. Therefore, some women with too dry scalp may not want to say yes to this method. Generally speaking, it is recommended to use rice water for hair no more than once or twice per week. You should also notice that rice water could be stored in the fridge no longer than a week. Shake it well before applying it to your hair.
Rice water for hair has first used in ancient times yet is still worth applying in modern and busy life due to its precious benefits of all time. It makes sense that natural healers should bring natural beauty to the Earth.
