If you believe that hair dyes do you more harm than good, then why don’t you think about safer ways to change your boring hair color? We would like to suggest how to color your hair without using chemical dyes. “Dying” your hair in a healthy way does not mean the outcome won’t be praiseworthy.
Hair extensions using colored hair bundles
Changing hair color not to harm your health may not your sole issue. Some girls do not have natural voluminous and long hair and wish to improve it constantly. We could say that having hair extensions with colored hair bundles is to cut more than two trees with one saw.
If your current hair color could be in harmony with the colored hair bundles, then you could alternately attach the bundles with your real hair layers. Otherwise, you had better completely cover your natural hair by combining the colored hair bundles with a 4×4” closure, a 13×4” frontal, or a 360 frontal. All things you should learn about hair extensions using hair bundles could be found here.
You should use good hairpieces which are made of human hair materials and make sure to properly take care of them so that your hair extensions could last for 1 to 2 years. There are also various colors of weave hair extensions you could refer to.
How to color your hair in a temporary manner
If you have tried fake tattoos, you should find that temporary highlights have their own value and attractiveness. Temporary hair colors are no exception.
1. Natural ingredients to dye your hair

Various types of herbs could also enhance different colors of hair. For example, hibiscus, marigold, and rosehips are used to deepen the red shade; Rosemary, nettle, and sage are natural dyes for dark hair; while marigold, saffron, and sunflower petals are great for blonde hair.
Herbs to dye your hair
Various types of herbs could enhance your hair color in different ways.
If you wish your hair to appear red shades, try calendula, marigold, hibiscus, or rosehips for a few red highlights. The effects will be cumulated day by day. Simply, simmer the flowers in water for about 30 minutes, then strain and cool it down. Finally, pray or pour on hair and allow it to dry in the sun if possible.
On the other hand, rosemary, sage, and nettle are great herbs to get brunette / dark hair. Apply the same process above and be patient, you shall notice the color enhancement after several days.
To get blonde hair, chamomile tea should work well, but you can also try calendula, marigold, saffron, or sunflower petals instead. To hide grays it is suggested to try rhubarb root in two cups of water and follow the above process.
Coffee and tea for dark hair
Coffee and tea will help your hair tresses go darker, and can simultaneously help hide gray shade of your hair. You could usually mix coffee or tea with a normal conditioner for a healthy yet surprising color change.
Beet and Carrot Juice
These two juices can add natural red lights to your current hair color. Depending on what shade you wish, you can either use each alone or mix them together. For a more reddish tinge, you will use more beet juice (strawberry blonde, auburn, or deeper red). Carrot will likely give orange shades on your strands.
How you apply them?
A cup of juice is enough for each time. You can mix the juice with some coconut oil or olive oil to condition dry hair. Do massaging before let it sit in your shower cap for about one hour. Then rinse it all out with cold water and seal with an apple cider vinegar spray.
2. Food coloring to dye your hair
Using food coloring is an affordable and healthy way to temporarily dye your hair. However, it usually works well on light hair only. It is also simple and safe for you to dye your hair at home with the materials from your kitchen.
Tricks: Before you practice applying food coloring on your real hair, try a test by cutting off a lock of your hair where the cut is not visible. Apply the dye on this hair lock before rinsing it out to see the test outcome.
The new color will likely last for a few weeks, depending on the way you apply and how frequently you wash your hair. If you would like to remove the color, wash your strands as normal and shades will safely fade away.
